Jake Muzzy (Cello) began the study of cello at four years of age.
He won distinction in competitions such as the Masterworks Festival Concerto Competition, the National Federation of Music
Clubs Student Auditions and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He studied with Carol Ourada in Wheaton and
Hans Jorgen Jensen at Northwestern University before taking his Masters from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the
tutelage of Stephen Geber. He was Principal Cellist of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for four years before moving to the
Chicago area where he is the director of Faith Community School of the Arts. He is on the faculty of the Wheaton College
Conservatory and teaches at the Masterworks Festival during the summer. He performs with his wife Hannah (harp) as the duo
51 Strings (www.51strings.com), which has concertized across the United States and in Argentina.
At concerts they speak about the lordship of Jesus Christ in their lives and in music. They have three sons, Nathan, Paul, and Calem.
Karen Archbold (Piano, Musikgarten, Voice, Flute) completed her undergraduate education studying flute at Southwestern College. She spent three years studying voice in Germany at the Hochschule für Künste. In 2008, she received her Musikgarten Certification and has been teaching ever since. Karen's recent operatic performances include Berthe in The Barber of Seville, Little Buttercup in HMS Pinafore, and Miss Jessel in the Turn of the Screw. She has also appeared with several orchestras including the Bremerhaven Orchester, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, and the HfK KammerOrchester. Karen has studied piano privately for 14 years.
Brian Lloyd Christian (Piano)
studied conducting with David Milnes and Marika Kuzma at the University of
California at Berkeley, where he graduated with a B.A. in Music. During his undergraduate years,
he studied orchestration with Olly Wilson, won first prize in the collegiate division of the
Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Piano Competition, and performed Prokofiev's third piano
concerto with the university orchestra. After graduating from Berkeley, Mr. Christian co-produced
performances of his operetta "The Little Prince" with the aid of student opera singers, and he
accompanied the university's opera performance class under Jonathan Khuner's mentorship. He spent
three years in Baltimore, where he earned his M.M. in Composition from the Peabody Institute.
During that time, he studied opera coaching and diction with Eileen Cornett, composition with
Nicholas Maw, and orchestration with Paul Mathews. He was a production assistant for the Baltimore
Opera, a rehearsal pianist for Opera Vivente, and the composer and pianist for his opera scene,
"Eva," which was produced by the Peabody opera department as part of their Opera Etudes project.
He is also a composer of other vocal music: his choral piece "Virtue" was selected for a reading
and recording session by the Peabody Singers. His song cycle "Six Love Songs for Soprano"
was hailed as "flawless" by Phyllis Bryn-Julson and "a competition winner" by Stanley Cornett.
Upon graduation he was awarded the Gustav Klemm award for exemplary work in composition.
Mr. Christian moved to Chicago in September of 2009 about a week after getting married to his wife,
Clara. He and Clara are the proud parents of one boy, Jesse.
Hannah Muzzy (Harp, Piano, and Drama)
spent her childhood in Guatemala where her parents were missionaries.
She studied piano from the age of six and was drawn to the harp after moving to Australia
in her early teens. She felt called
to play the harp to bless others. At age 19 she
began studies with Alexandra
Shepherd and continued at the Australian National
University with Alice Giles. She spent
eight months in Cordoba, Argentina studying
with Dora Zenobi. Since her move to
the USA and marriage she has performed with
the Memphis Symphony, at Harding University, and in other venues and
events. She and her husband Jake perform together as
"51 Strings" a harp and cello duo (www.51strings.com). They have three sons, Nathan, Paul,
and Calem, and make their home in West Chicago, Illinois.
Alie Nelson (Art) is a recent graduate of Asbury College
with a B. A. in Studio Art. Her passion and calling as an artist has been developed through involvement with the Art
Department at Asbury, time in New Zealand, and involvement in Masterpiece Ministries, an organization devoted to developing
artistic high schoolers and showing them that integration of faith and art is possible. Currently, Alie is working on
paintings for an upcoming art show entitled "The 40 Project" with textile artist Laura Tabbut.
John Roskamp (Guitar) was born and raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
For 12 years, he ran an importation and manufacturer's representative business in Paraguay. He has been playing
guitar since his teen years; in Paraguay he learned some of the local music, playing in church and other venues.
He has studied classical, jazz, blues, and folk guitar. He currently plays bass in the Faith Community church
praise band. John is married to Jinhi and they have four children: Daniel, Andrew, Sam, and Anna.
Kristi Wright (Voice, Flute, and Drama) has been teaching,
since 2006, students of all ages in the western suburbs of Chicago.
In addition to her teaching career, Ms. Wright is a performer and director. Most recently, she has been heard
as the Coloratura role in Argento's "Postcard from Morocco", as a lead soloist in Purcell's "Fairy Queen", and as Yum-Yum
and Pitti Sing from Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado". As well as opera, Ms. Wright has had roles in many musicals
such as Cinderella in "Into the Woods", Mrs. MacAfee in "Bye Bye Birdie", and Tzeitle in "Fiddler on the Roof".
As a director, she has put on performances of Mozart's "Impressario" as well as scenes from his "Le nozze di Figaro",
"Cosi fan tutte", and Nicolai's "The Merry Wives of Windsor". She has assisted in directing for various musicals
including "Annie", "Narnia", and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown". Ms. Wright has a B.M. in Vocal Performance from
Wheaton College and a M.M. in Vocal Performance from The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
David Wright (Artistic Advisor) has served for over 20 years as the
Director of Music at Faith Community Church in West Chicago and as Music Teacher and Director of Bands at
Wheaton Christian Grammar School in Wheaton, IL. After receiving a Bachelor of Music Education and Trombone Performance degree
from Wheaton College, IL, he began teaching music in
the pubic school system. In 1996 he was awarded a Master of Music Education Degree with honors from VanderCook College of Music in
Chicago, IL. Musical pursuits have included freelance trombone performance in orchestras, concert bands, and jazz ensembles,
director of the gospel group His People, and clinician in both choral and instrumental music. He has also composed and arranged
a large number of pieces for children's choir, adult choir, concert band, orchestra, and jazz ensemble. Dave and his wife, Beth,
have four adult children and the Wright family has performed together on numerous occasions.
